How does hemp work on the skin?
In the skin, as in other parts of the body, there are cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2). These are part of an endocannabinoid system that is involved in maintaining skin homeostasis, as well as its barrier function through its activation at the level, for example, of the sebaceous glands.
CB1 and CB2 receptors are found at different levels in the skin: keratinocytes in the epidermis, sebocytes in the sebaceous gland, pilosebaceous follicle, or in sensory cells in the dermis. The endocannabinoid system is involved in different states and/or skin pathologies such as dry skin or acne due to its action on sebocytes. According to some sources, hemp acts as an adaptogen, which means that it is capable of increasing the ability to adapt to environmental factors and prevent damage caused by them.
